Ghostfish Peak Buster Imperial IPA
Today is the day we drank the Peak Buster Imperial IPA.
I am SO excited to write this review. This beer has been like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for this IPA-freak. ;)
The color is beautiful. Cloudy toasted amber is what comes to mind. The carbonation is mild and pleasant. The smell is surprisingly mellow though. It doesn’t quite have that punch-in-the-face that you often get with these imperials.
It is a very drinkable Imperial IPA. It’s shocking really. At 130 IBU’s and 9.5%, I would honestly expect this beer to be heavier. Not that I’m complaining. It’s delicious. However, it would be very easy to accidentally find a buzz with this one. It’s like a silent bomb.
I’m really loving all these gluten free beers built a foundation of millet and buckwheat malt–including ours!–it seems to provide a solid mash. Thank goodness Grouse Malting & Roasting Company exists. What would we do without them?
They rocked the hop profile with this one. Truly. The Eureka, Centennial, and Summit hops blend so well together that I just want to keep drinking.
The smoothness and supreme balance of this beer makes it one difficult brew to put down. (Which means it’s dangerous. Ha!) The bitterness fades quickly and isn’t too sharp, particularly for 130 IBUs.
Where To Buy Ghostfish Brewing Beers
I have to say…I wish I had this beer in my life regularly. Our Brew Team brought us this one after a quick visit to the Ghostfish pub in Seattle. I haven’t been able to find this beer for sale in Oregon yet, but I have good news…YOU CAN BUY THEM ONLINE. That’s right!
Unless of course you live in a state that prohibits the receipt of alcohol via mail, you can actually purchase this beer online and have it shipped to your home. (Hmm…I wonder if they do bulk discounts? ;) )
Stand by for Katrina’s review…coming out soon.
